As concerns about the coronavirus outbreak rise the American Red Cross Wisconsin Chapter is urging healthy individuals to donate blood to prevent blood shortages that could result from lower participation. Red Cross spokeswoman Laura McGuire says donating blood is a safe process. McGuire says the Red Cross wants to emphasize that there is no evidence or data that the coronavirus can be submitted by blood transfusions. McGuire says the Red Cross is also taking steps to make sure that people giving blood are healthy by conducting mini-physicals and taking a person’s temperature. “We are closely monitoring the situation. Right now we do have an urgent need for blood,” McGuire told WFDL news.
