8-12-20 hazardous materials spill beaver dam

Nobody was injured following a hazardous materials leak at the Animart facility in Beaver Dam.    Tuesday morning firefighters received a report  that formaldehyde was leaking from a damaged 275 gallon tote container inside the facility.  The Animart facility was evacuated by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.  On scene assistance was provided by the Dodge county Hazardous Materials Team,  and Fox Lake and Juneau Fire Departments. A Watertown Fire EMS unit and a Fond du Lac Fire Department fire engine back-filled our station and answered other calls in the City while B.D.F.D. was busy at Animart.  Dodge County Haz-Mat Technicians and Beaver Dam Firefighters in personal protective equipment quickly stopped the leak from the tote and spread absorbent materials (Kitty Litter) in the area in efforts to contain the spill. An estimated 200 gallons of formaldehyde was spilled.   Once the situation was stabilized, Animart management on scene arranged for a hazardous materials clean-up contractor to respond for clean-up and removal of the product.  No injuries were reported. Beaver Dam Fire & Rescue and Dodge County Haz-Mat Technicians will remain on-scene until the scene is turned over to Clean Harbors when they arrive.
