8-17-20 fdl school district calendar change

Dear Fond du Lac School District Families and Staff,

I am writing to provide you an update regarding the upcoming school year. In these difficult times, there is no easy decision on how to bring students back to school. The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority while creating plans for the coming school year.

in person learning models

All students who have selected the In-Person Learning Platform will now start the school year in the Blended Learning Model, this change was decided by the Board of Education last night.

This change affects our students in 5th grade and younger because students in grades 6 through 12 were already scheduled to start the year in the Blended Learning Model.

The Blended Learning Model is a mix of in-person and remote learning to reduce student capacity. In this model, students are assigned to either cohort A or B. Cohort A will attend class in-person with a teacher two days per week (Monday and Tuesday) and do remote learning Wednesday-Friday, while cohort B will do remote learning Monday-Wednesday, then attend class in-person with the teacher on Thursday and Friday. Details regarding your child’s cohort assignment will come from their school by the middle of next week.

For parents who have completed online registration but need to change the Instructional Platform for their child, please contact your school directly for assistance. For families who have not yet completed online registration, we ask you to do so by Monday.

Please take the time to review our “Planning for the 2020-21 School Year Guide” as there are many details in this plan that will help us prepare for a strong start to the school year. Please note: The COVID-19 pandemic is a fluid situation and the information we are sharing is subject to change. If there are changes, we will continue to communicate with you as information becomes available.

There are many moving pieces to these plans and we will need to adapt as the situation surrounding COVID-19 evolves and we receive further guidance from the State and Fond du Lac County Health Departments. Thank you for your patience, understanding and collaboration during these unprecedented times.

Sincerely,

Sharon Simon

Interim Superintendent
