9-25-20 fdl lakeside park alternate plan-the latest

The president and owner of Integrity Saw and Tool in Fond du Lac and a member of the Lakeside Forward group says he believes the dollar commitment to an alternate Fond du Lac Lakeside Park master plan could be even greater than the $5.2 million that has already been pledged.    The group is proposing to help fund construction of  a restaurant on the lighthouse peninsula and amphitheater on Oven Island.   Paul Reetz says there are dozens of companies waiting to jump in but are waiting for the storm to pass as they see people taking shots at businesses that have already announced they are donating.  “The largest employers within the greater Fond du Lac region are taking the biggest hits and it trickles on to a 28 person company like we are just for showing a commitment to this project,” Reetz told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. “…some of the people said they are absolutely going to make donations as soon as the agreements get in place so they don’t have to take on the storm of negativity that the rest of us have.”    Reetz says a binding agreement gets the process rolling.  The city council this week did not take action on the agreement.   Nearly a year after this process first started Reetz says taxpayers are already saving money by rehabilitating the existing park pavilion instead of replacing it.  “The bids are coming in under $1 million.  So having a $2 million savings to get a brand new, remodeled pavilion that’s meeting all the needs of the community is just a fantastic move.”
