9-29-20 new coronavirus stimulus package

House Democrats are preparing a new, smaller coronavirus relief package as they try to forge ahead with talks with the Trump administration.  Retired Ripon College economics professor Paul Schoofs says it remains to be seen if the new plan will help restart stimulus negotiations.   “I think they’re going to give it a try,”  Schoofs told WFDL news.  “We have to remember that only two or three weeks ago senate Republicans had put together something in the neighborhood of $500 billion in a package they would be willing to approve, so way, way short of the amount the Democrats say they may be willing to accept.”    The bill would include enhanced unemployment insurance, direct payments to Americans, PPP small-business loan funding and aid to airlines, among other provisions.  The House could vote on a bill as soon as this week.
