Nobody was injured in a fire that damaged a Waupun duplex. Shortly after 12:30am Saturday Waupun firefighters were called to the scene at 540 E. Jefferson Street after an individual who was visiting the downstairs tenant noticed the building was on fire. Everyone had safely evacuated before the fire department arrived. Upon arrival, flames were visible from the second story windows. Crews knocked the fire down within 30 minutes and remained on scene for two hours. The home, which is owned by Ben Harper, sustained significant smoke and fire damage to the second floor as well as water damage to the first floor and basement. Agencies assisting at the scene included the Waupun Police Department, Lifestar Ambulance, Waupun Utilities, and Alliant Energy. In total, six individuals were displaced by the fire and they are staying with family and friends in the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and is not considered suspicious.
