U.S. Senator Ron Johnson and Congressman Glenn Grothman have introduced companion bills asking president Joe Biden to award the Medal of Honor to the late Lt. Col. James Megellas, a Fond du Lac native, for acts of valor during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin is a co-sponsor of the senate bill. Megellas died last April at the age of 103. Legislation has been introduced in each of the last four sessions of Congress to award Megellas the Medal of Honor. He is the most decorated officer in the history of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.
