8-19-21 booster shots-covid-19

The vice president of pharmacy services with the Wisconsin region for SSM Health says the call for booster shots for all Americans eight months after they get their second COVID-19 shot doesn’t come as a surprise.  Mo Kharbat says the data shows after eight months antibody concentrations drop below a certain threshold  to fight the COVID infection.  “It seems it’s the eight to nine month time frame after the antibody concentrations drop below a  certain threshold where we won’t be able to stop the COVID infection,”  Kharbat told WFDL news.   Kharbat says with the surge in COVID cases fueled by the Delta variant, it seems that the booster shot will be a timely addition to the vaccination series, while additional information is gathered on how the immune system works.   As far as changing the trajectory of the pandemic Kharbat says the most important factor is still getting unvaccinated people vaccinated.
