5-18-22 fdl county district attorney reacts to waupun murder conviction

The Fond du Lac County District Attorney says he is pleased a Fond du Lac  jury has found a Waupun man guilty of murdering his grandmother.   The jury this week found Gregory Spittel guilty of second degree reckless homicide in the August 2019  beating death of 75 year old Carol Foreman.  District Attorney Eric Toney says the jury didn’t buy Spittel’s argument the ‘cartel’ killed Foreman.   “He (Spittel) had indicated the cartel was responsible for murdering his grandmother and also responsible for the head injury he suffered in May and it did not appear the jury gave much thought to that,”  Toney told WFDL news.  “…given the verdict came within about  two and a half hours from when they received the case.”   Toney says he believes the big challenge for the jury was deciding whether it was an intentional act given the defendant’s  high level of intoxication.  Spittel  faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced July 20.
