12-1-22 cost to buy a christmas tree is up this year

The cost to buy a Christmas tree is up this year in Wisconsin.  Greg Hann with the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Association says all of the costs that go into producing a christmas tree, including labor, fertilizer and fuel costs are up this year.  Consumers will see about a 10 percent increase in the price of live trees.  Hann says christmas tree growers are prepared for this year’s holiday season after a successful growing season.  Hann says the Frazier Fir remains the most popular variety, followed by the Balsam Fir. Wisconsin ranks fifth in the nation in the number of trees cut and acres in production.  More than 700,000 evergreens are harvested each fall.
