3-21-23 van dyne porch fire

A cigarette butt apparently started a fire that damaged the porch of a Van Dyne grocery store/apartment unit.  Shortly after 3:30am Monday firefighters were called to the scene on Van Dyne Road, for a fire threatening the attached structure, which contained two apartments and Giese’s Country Market.   Residents were safely evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished.   A burning cigarette is apparently to blame for the fire.  Nobody was injured and residents were able to return to their units after the fire was out.  The deck and items that were on the deck are a total  loss.   Firefighting efforts created minor damage to the structure to ensure that the fire had not entered any closed spaces on it.
