7-22-14 train derailment-emergency

SLINGER, Wis. (AP) — Investigators will try to determine what caused a train’s computer to signal an emergency situation before it collided with another train in a southern Wisconsin community, injuring two crew members and prompting a neighborhood evacuation.  Southern & Wisconsin Railroad spokesman Ken Lucht says the engineer on the SWR train applied the brakes because the onboard computer sensed that something was wrong prior to colliding with a Canadian National Railway train in the Washington County community of Slinger on Sunday night.  Lucht says investigators will interview the crews from both trains and inspect the trains’ equipment to determine the type of emergency.
