MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican attorney general hopeful Brad Schimel now says he would defend the state’s domestic partner registry. The registry extends limited legal benefits to same-sex couples. Conservative group Wisconsin Family Action filed a lawsuit in 2010 alleging the registry violates the state’s constitutional ban on gay marriage. The state Supreme Court found the registry constitutional in July.
