Fond du Lac based Mercury Marine has announced a new agreement with Metal Shark Aluminum Boats to power 16 Coast Guard boats with Mercury diesel engines. Merc president John Pfeifer says the partnership is the first of its kind in the United States for Mercury Marine. “This new agreement is unique because its the first time we’ve done a diesel engine with Metal Shark,” Pfeifer told WFDL news. “Diesel lately has become a preferred power choice for some applications with the government because they want to carry diesel fuel versus gasoline in some operations if they’re really high running hours they want the efficiency.” Pfeifer says Merc and Metal Shark have enjoyed a strong partnership over the years with Merc outboards being the choice of many of Metal Shark’s state and local law enforcement and commercial customers.
