10-9-15 dodge county woman convicted of child neglect

A Dodge County woman has been convicted on child neglect charges after her two children were removed from a Town of Burnett home with what were described as “deplorable” conditions. At a plea hearing Wednesday, 26 year old Secoy Koch-Miller pleaded no contest to a charge of neglecting a child and neglecting a child causing bodily harm. In early 2013, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department began an investigation after a County Jail inmate told authorities he was concerned for his newborn daughter and her two year old stepbrother. According to a criminal complaint, home inspectors noticed a strong odor of animal feces, urine, and rotting food; found maggots in the refrigerator, toilets full of human waste and clutter throughout the home. According to medical reports, the two year old was covered with bug bites, had a bruised eye, and his hair was full of spiders and spider eggs. The toddler weighed only 20 pounds and was black in color because he was covered in filth. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for November 3rd.
