The Fond du Lac city council has postponed adoption of the 2015 budget until their next meeting. The proposed budget includes a property tax rate increase of 5.4 percent or 45 cents per thousand dollars of equalized value. The owner of a $150,000 home would see an increase of about $68. Director of Administration Hal Wortman warned the council about the potential risks of using a projected $1.54 million fund balance to further reduce the tax rate increase. The proposed property tax levy of $22.8 million is up from $21.5 million a year ago. Wortman says property tax increases will vary following a citywide property revaluation.
