This month’s veteran of the month sponsored by Marian University is Iraqi war veteran Richard Evans. Evans served in the U.S. Navy reserve for 20 years… including a tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Evans says his training was in the area of building. “Building airfields, landing areas, hospital zones, places to eat. All of the support things that the marines are going to need,” Evans said. “…you bond with people you are going to remember for the rest of your life.” During his time in Iraq Evans was severely injured and is now disabled. He received several medals for his service including the U.S. Navy Achievement medal.
