12-10-14 sports betting indictment-fdl man is alleged victim

A Florida sports betting consultant faces fraud, racketeering, extortion and gun charges and is accused of scamming a Fond du Lac area man out of $25 million.  According to a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday in Milwaukee, Adam Meyer runs Real Money Sports, Inc. Meyer advises customers on professional and college teams to bet on, selling picks for hundreds of thousands of dollars.  After a customer reduced his gambling, Meyer told them they were both in danger over a gambling debt that a bookie thought they shared.  He would call the customer posing as “Kent Wong” and threatened to hurt his family if he didn’t pay. At one point Meyer and an associate flew to Fond du Lac to meet the customer. Meyer’s associate brandished a gun and demanded the customer send Meyer more money.  Defense attorney Joel Hirschhorn says Meyer will plead not guilty.
