12-24-14 atv operator dies after breaking through ice on fox lake

One man died when his ATV broke through the ice on Fox Lake in Dodge County.  The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says shortly after 6pm Tuesday three men were riding their ATV’s when they went into the water in a bay on the southwest portion of the lake.  Two of the men were able to get out of the water and yelled for help, but the third man was in the water for approximately an hour until rescue personnel were able to reach him in a rescue boat.  The subject in the water was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead.  The cause of death will be determined by the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office.  The other 2 subjects were treated by EMS at the scene and released without  transport.  A Fox Lake Police Officer was under Mutual Aid to assist the effort and received a minor, non-life threatening injury during the rescue and was treated and expected to be released.   Agencies involved include, Fox Lake Fire and EMS, Randolph Fire and EMS, Beaver Dam Fire and EMS, Fox Lake Police, WI DNR Warden, and the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Chaplain.  Flight for Life was contacted for aid in locating the subject, but was unable to fly due to the weather.  Names and other personal information are being withheld pending family notifications.  The DNR will be conducting further investigation.
