2-10-15 fdl school superintendent says state budget could cost fdl school district $1 million

The Fond du Lac School superintendent says the governor’s proposed budget could leave the Fond du Lac School district with more than $1 million less in state aid.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says as he reads the budget the Fond du Lac school district would get about $135 less per student over the biennium under the governor’s proposal.  “I thought it was about $150 (per pupil)  in the first year and then goes up a little bit in the second year…but if I just did the quick math that’s a little over $1 million for the Fond du Lac School District in terms of less aid.  The other thing that’s concerning in the budget is the fact that taking the cap off of voucher enrollment where it was capped at a thousand.”   Sebert says the district would have to look at all areas to make up the difference.  He says one area where the district has saved is in the area of health insurance with a greater focus on workplace wellness.  Sebert says the district wants to try to avoid cutting programs because that means cutting staff.
