3-18-15 wildfire danger

Fire crews have already responded to more than 30 wildfires that have burned more than 150 acres in Wisconsin…and its not even spring.  DNR Forest Protection Director Trent Marty says the widespread risk of high to very high fire danger across the state is unusual this early.  The Department of Natural Resources suspended burning permits in 22 counties this Week and Marty says the fire danger in Fond du Lac and Dodge county is considered high.  Marty says all DNR prescribed burns are being evaluated.  Debris burning is Wisconsin’s top cause of wildfires. Winds like today’s can rekindle smoldering embers. Anyone who has conducted a debris pile in recent days is asked to please return to that area and make sure that fire is out.
