4-7-16 grothman says voter id should help republicans in november

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Republican U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman’s comment to a Milwaukee TV station that Wisconsin’s newly enacted voter ID law will “make a little bit of a difference” in helping the GOP in November has sparked retorts on social media.  Video of Grothman’s comment had been retweeted hundreds of times, with critics calling it a gaffe.   Grothman was asked whether a Republican can win the White House. He responded that Hillary Clinton is weak and that “photo ID is going to make a little bit of a difference as well.”  Republican Gov. Scott Walker signed the law in 2011, but court battles kept it from taking effect until this year. Supporters say it prevents fraud, while critics say it disenfranchises young, poor and minority voters.
