3-1-17 wheelchair bound man in fdl enroute to lambeau field

A Beloit man hopes to inspire others with a 170 mile trek from Janesville to Lambeau Field in Green Bay in a wheelchair.  Fifty five year old Dennis Schulze has made it to Fond du lac and figures he will arrive at Lambeau in another month.  Schulze is traveling along the side of Interstate 41…at the brisk clip of about a mile an hour.  He says he has met some wonderful people along the way and some who have to take a second look.  “I”m trying to promote and show the goodness in the world,”  Schulze told WFDL news.  Shulze had a life-changing experience five years ago when he was seriously injured in a semi crash.  “2012 I got involved in a bad accident in my semi where they had to cut my leg off while I was awake,”   Schulze said.  Schulze says doctors told him he had less than a 50 percent chance of surviving.  “…about a month and a half later they had to cut more off my leg because of infection and when they ended up cutting my knee off, that morning my mom was there and my dad passed away in her arms from Alzheimers.”    Shulze’s mother died a couple years later from cancer.  Schultz is raising money along the way for several charities he’s passionate about including Alzheimers and cancer research in honor of his mother and father, the Law Enforcement Death Response Ream and March of Dimes.
