7-13-17 csa explores sale of agnesian healthcare to ssm health

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes is exploring the sale of Agnesian Healthcare to SSM Health.  The CSA and SSM Health have signed a letter of intent to sell Agnesian and Monroe Clinic to SSM Health.  SSM Health is based in St. Louis with health care facilities in 18 south-central Wisconsin counties.    According to a press release the decision to pursue a sponsorship transfer was initiated by CSA.  The release says transfer is the result of the changes in the Wisconsin payer and provider markets, combined with the changing democraphics of the congregation.    “We are incredibly proud of the quality and compassionate healthcare provided through our ministries. Both institutions powerfully bring our values and mission to life,” said Sister Jean Steffes, General Superior of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes. “The time is right for us to focus on the long-term sustainability of Agnesian HealthCare and Monroe Clinic. With their reputation for mission-driven, high-quality and compassionate care, we believe SSM Health is a strong strategic partner to both preserve and advance the organizations.”  A spokesperson for CSA says the letter of intent is expected to be finalized sometime this fall.  Terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.
