10-3-17 welcome home ceremony for fdl firefighter

Fond du Lac Fire Lieutenant  Shawn Kneeland says its great to be back home.   Kneeland returned to work Monday after a six month tour of duty in the middle east.   He was greeted at work with a welcome home celebration.  “When we come back it really makes us feel like the mission was well worth it,”  Kneeland said.  Kneeland is a master sergeant in the Wisconsin Air National Guard.   This was his third tour in Iraq and also his most dangerous…opening up airfields on Army Forwarding bases.  Kneeland says there were times when his unit came under enemy fire.  “The mission is outside the wire and over the horizon so its new projects and doing things not on a traditional basis.  So a lot of things we were doing were not behind the protection of security and walls.”    Kneeland was previously deployed to Iraq in 2004 and again in 2010.
