4-17-19 telecommunicators week

This is  Public Safety Telecommunicator’s Week.   Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management director Bobbie Hicken says the men and women of the Fond du lac County Communications Center have a combined over 260 years of dispatch experience.  “They are dealing with people and I always say they share people’s worst day ever, and then hang up and do it over again”  Hicken told WFDL news.  Hicken says it’s a 24-7, high stress job.  “They are that call, that person who is calling needing help and they are that link between those responders and the person who needs help.”   The civilian run 911 center serves 17 fire departments, five ambulance services, 10 first responder groups and nine law enforcement agencies.  A public open house was held  at the communications center Tuesday afternoon.
