8-22-19 highway 23 expansion project information meeting

The Fond du Lac County Highway commissioner says the Highway 23 expansion project between Fond du Lac and Sheboygan counties will make it much more safe for motorists.   Construction will begin next year on the Fond du Lac County portion of the project, which will include a number of interchanges and frontage roads, in addition to widening the highway to four lanes.    Several residents who live in the area expressed concern about some of those changes at an information meeting in Fond du Lac this week.   Residents expressed frustration about not being able to make turns onto the highway.   Fond du Lac County Highway commissioner Tom Janke says overall it’s a good plan.  “I think its a great alternative.  Does it affect people? Yes.  There are certain people that aren’t going to like it, but that’s the unfortunate thing with these types of projects is it’s always difficult to make everybody happy,”  Janke told WFDL news.  Janke says Highway 23 will go over the top of County Highway K, lessening the steepness of  the St. Mary’s Spring’s Hill.   A diamond interchange at Highway UU will include a roundabout at the on and off ramps, and there will also be changes at the access to the Whispering  Springs subdivision.  “Essentially DOT’s emphasis is to make this corridor as safe as possible and that means, unfortunately,  restricting some access points along the way, and adding access roads as well.”
