The Fond du Lac County District Attorney says he is pleased a jury returned a guilty verdict in a drug overdose case. A Fond du Lac jury returned a guilty verdict last Friday against a Milwaukee man in the fentanyl overdose death of a Waupun man. District Attorney Eric Toney prosecuted the case. Toney says Sonny Vincent Lawrence was convicted of providing the drugs that led to the overdose death of Austin Vande Zande at a Fond du Lac residence in March 2020. Toney says these types of case are very often difficult to prosecute. Toney says over the past year Fond du Lac County has seen a record number of drug overdose deaths. Lawrence faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation. A second person has also been charged in the case.
