9-23-21 national child passenger safety week

Car crashes are the leading safety issue for children.   According to the latest figures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 183,000 children were injured in car crashes in 2018.   State AAA spokesman Nick Jarmusz says that’s an average of more than 500 injuries a day.  Jarmusz says many injuries are deaths are preventable if children are properly restrained in the vehicle.  Jarmusz says the problem is new data from AAA and the National Safety Council shows more than 50 percent of car seats and 73 percent of forward facing car seats are incorrectly installed.  This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week.
