People gathered in Fond du Lac over the weekend for the city’s premier winter tourism event. In conjunction with the opening of the sturgeon spearing season, Sturgeon Spectacular is held in Fond du Lac February 10th through the 12th. Fond du Lac Festivals director Pete Wilke says the event has grown tremendously since it was launched eight years ago. “It originated by Sunset on the Water on the ice. It’s gone through some transformation since then,” Wilke told WFDL news. Wilke says in addition to events at Lakeside Park there a downtown event hub outside Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts featured a number of activities. Wilke says without a doubt the state snow sculpting competition is the most popular event of the weekend. “That brings people, near and far, to check that out. It is a really cool transformation to go from a six foot, by six foot, by eight foot, tall block of white, pure snow to some of the sculptures these teams come up with.”
