7-12-23 latin flavor carnival

FOND DU LAC – Experience the taste, music, and fun of a Latin American carnival when Holy Family Catholic Community’s Latin Flavor event returns for a second year on Sunday, July 16.   Last year, Holy Family welcomed people from throughout the community to its first-ever Latin Flavor event. While in the past the parish had hosted Taste of Mexico, Latin Flavor sought to expand its reach beyond Mexico to showcase the food and culture from countries throughout Latin America, better representing the heritage of its parishioners and the broader Fond du Lac community.  It did so with great success. Throughout the day, people packed the Holy Family Prayer Garden, listening to music, enjoying performances from traditional dance groups, and purchasing more than 1,000 tacos!   “The Latin Flavor Carnival is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the heritage of our community, and to give people who are unfamiliar with the traditional music, food, and games of Latin America the chance to experience them,” Holy Family Catholic Community Pastor Fr. Ryan Pruess said. “We were blessed to have so any people turn out last year, and we hope to see even more at this year’s carnival.”   This July, when the event returns to people can expect to see much of what they enjoyed last year with some fun new additions. The Latin Flavor Carnival will kick off at 11:00 am in the Holy Family Prayer Garden, 271 Fourth Street Way, where people will be met with the scents of various traditional Latin American cuisines, including tacos, barbacoa, tamales, nachos,
pozole, corn cocktails, arepas, fruit coolers/aguas frescas, and other sweet treats! As it would not be a carnival without games, attendees will have the chance to throw darts at
balloons/juego de bombas con dardos, toss rings onto bottles/juego de atinale a la botella,  and play a card matching game to win prizes!  The carnival will also have live entertainment, including D.J. Estrella from 11:00 to 1:00 pm, the band Massive Show! from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, and a performance from the Ballet Folklórico Xanharati dance group from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. The Show4Kids, featuring a children’s show, dance contest, and singing contest, will close out the event from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.   For those who would like to attend, the parish will also offer a Spanish Mass at noon in the church directly adjacent to the Prayer Garden.   Admission is free, and food will be available for purchase. Those who attend are asked to park  in the church’s west parking lot. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved into the Holy Family Parish Hall.
