MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s Republican-controlled Legislature has ignored a special session called by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers. He called on lawmakers on Wednesday to pass a $1 billion package. It would keep a pandemic-era child care program running, send more money to the University of Wisconsin and create a paid family leave program. Republicans in both the Senate and Assembly convened the session as required by law, but took no action. It’s a familiar show in Wisconsin, as Evers has called 12 previous special sessions that have largely gone the same way. Evers accuses Republicans of ignoring issues important to Wisconsin residents.
