4-18-24 fdl county district attorney toney makes reelection announcement on am 1170s between the lines program

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney is running for reelection.  Toney announced Wednesday  on AM 1170s Between the Lines program that he is running for a fourth four year term in the November election.  “I am happy to announce today that I will be running for reelection this year,”  Toney said.  “I made that decision quite a while ago and decided to announce it today and continue working with our  fantastic law enforcement and wonderful staff we have here in the District Attorney’s Office to continue to keep our community safe.”  Toney was first elected DA in 2012, and has been reelected unopposed in 2016 and 2020.  Toney says one of the big issues facing law enforcement and his office continues to be cracking down on fentanyl and other illegal drug trafficking.  Earlier this week a Fond du Lac judge denied a motion by a 16 year old charged as an adult with reckless homicide for a drug overdose death to have his case moved to juvenile court.  “We see kids that are preyed upon by older individuals, young adults,  and they tell them nothing can happen, you’re not going to get in trouble,”  Toney said.  “We had one (juvenile) who was arrested for a party to a crime of First Degree Intentional Homicide that made a comment that he thought he was going to get to go home.”   Toney made an unsuccessful bid in 2022 for state attorney general.  Toney is the president of the Wisconsin District Attorney’s Association.
