Local law enforcement officers, firefighters and Fond du Lac area residents  gathered  at Hamilton Park in downtown Fond du Lac Thursday afternoon  to remember officers who have given their lives to protect the community.  “I’m grateful we have come together to show that we will never forget,”  Fond du Lac Police chief Aaron Goldstein said.  “This afternoon is a moment in time that we can focus on our undying commitment to honor and remember are fallen and the sacrifices they made.”  During the ceremony officers gathered in a circle around the families of the fallen officers to show their respect and support.  Goldstein  says in the city’s history, five Fond du Lac law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty.  Officer William Prinslow, in 1898, officer Nick Klaske in 1961 and officer Craig Birkholz in March 2011.  State trooper Trevor Casper was shot and killed in Fond du Lac on March 24, 2015 while attempting to apprehend a bank robbery and murder suspect.  Officer Joseph Kurer died in the line of duty from COVID-19 in September 2021.   The Fond du lac Police Department hosted  a memorial ceremony Thursday afternoon at the  Police-Fire Memorial in Hamilton Park.
