10-3-14 environmental group says dot overestimating future traffic counts

An environmental group says the Wisconsin DOT is overestimating future traffic levels when considering road reconstruction projects.  The group 1000 Friends of Wisconsin released a report this week arguing future traffic levels have been greatly overestimated resulting in several unneeded highway expansions.  1000 Friends executive director Steve Hiniker says the DOT often projects traffic levels will increase on particular stretches when it designs new and rebuilt roads  meaning lanes are added when they don’t need to be.  Hiniker made the comments on AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.
