10-29-14 county board observes moment of silence for former county executive

The Fond du Lac County Board is remembering the county’s first county executive.  Anita Anderegg died last Monday at the age of  92.  Tuesday night the county supervisors observed  a moment of silence prior to the board meeting.  Anderegg served as county executive from 1981 to 1993.  Prior to that she served 12 years as a county board supervisor.  County executive Al Buechel says Anderegg was instrumental in creating the elected county executive position.  “She did a lot to improve the county, she was always very fiscally conservative and kept the tax rate low,”  Buechel said.  Buechel says two major projects during Anderegg’s tenure involved upgrading the Fairgrounds building, replacing the highway garage and jail expansion.  Buechel says perhaps her proudest accomplishment was the development of Veterans Park.  Buechel says Anderegg wasn’t afraid of challenging the status quo.  “She felt the county neglected some things that needed to be done and spending too much money in other areas that it didn’t need to.  She challenged the status quo alot.”   The family is planning a memorial service in Fond du Lac at a future date.
