12-10-14 fdl county executive supports fair board loan request

The Fond du Lac County executive says he supports a request to give the Fond du Lac County Fair more time to pay a $50,000 no-interest loan from the County.  The county board will consider the request at their December 16th meeting.  County executive Al Buechel says the loan was requested after the 2012 Fair saw lower attendance due to poor weather.  “The fair is a very important event but the only other way they are going to be able to pay that loan is probably to get personal guarantees and I don’t think any volunteer body should ever be asked to do that,”  Buechel told WFDL news.  “I think the county in the best interest overall and all the activity for the young people for a lot of different organizations, its just too important to let them default on that loan.”   A resolution states that the Fond du Lac County Agricultural Society would pay $10,000 of the $50,000 that is due by Dec. 31, 2014, and pay the remaining $40,000 by the end of 2016. Fair officials say they don’t have enough money to pay the loan in full and start up costs for the fair next year.
