1-27-17 fdl lawmaker says meeting minutes bill is a sign of the times

A co-author of a bill that would allow local governments to no longer have to publish meeting minutes in local newspapers says it is a sign of the times.  The bill would allow municipalities, school districts, counties and technical colleges to publish meeting minutes on a website.  “This has been a growing movement across the country for years and we as a legislature received probably a dozen or more co-sponsors.  Its just a reflection of the times that we’re in,”  Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt told WFDL news.  Thiesfeldt  says he understands there may be some people who still read the physical copy of a newspaper.  “I think that’s something you’re always going to be able to say.  If that’s going to be the case then we’re never going to make the change.”  Newspapers have argued that it would be more lost revenue to a business that continues to struggle financially in a world of the internet.
