10-1-20 controversial solar farm near lomira

A group of residents opposed to a proposed solar farm in the Lomira area is holding a community meeting next week.    Lomira Village Board member Scott Ritger says the 100 megawatt Springfield Solar Farm would encompass nearly 900 acres of farmland north of Lomira to northeast of Brownsville.   “It would really affect everyone in the area from the farm standpoint because basic supply and demand, as 800 plus acres are taken out of the supply of farmland, the remaining land, the rent values go through the roof, and these farmers who are struggling and are paying through the nose to keep renting this farmland,”  Ritger told WFDL news.  Ritger also says the proposal conflicts with the village of Lomira’s published plan, noting the village just recently invested about $6 million in infrastructure to benefit the community including a new water treatment plant.   Ritger says he’s not opposed to solar energy.  He says this is just not the right location.  Ritger says area residents have formed an opposition group and public petition to let the state Public Service Commission know there is opposition.  A community meeting starts at 7pm Tuesday October 6 at  the Lomira Municipal building.
