The Fond du Lac County Board is taking up a resolution memorializing the late Fond du Lac County executive Allen Buechel. Buechel died in March from a heart attack. He was 74. Interim county executive Erin Gerred says the resolution memorializes Buechel for his faithful service to the citizens of the county. Gerred says perhaps Buechel’s strongest quality was his ability to keep politics out of county government. “He came at things from the perspective of what is good for the county,” Gerred told WFDL news. Gerred says one issue that Buechel frequently talked about was his decision to support a sales tax several years ago to help support keeping Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac County. “That could have ended his career as county executive as controversial as that was, but he said he felt the only choice he could make was to keep Merc Marine here in the community.”
