A psychiatrist and licensed nurse from Fond du Lac has been convicted of illegally distributing controlled substances. Seventy seven year old John Whelan faces up to four years in prison and three years extended supervision after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and lying to federal agents. The U.S. Attorney’s Eastern District of Wisconsin office says Whelan and another nurse prescribed controlled substances outside their professional practice from a home in Fond du Lac. The prescriptions were given in exchange for $200 to $300 per prescription. The case was investigated by Drug Enforcement Administration and Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group.
