MADISON, Wis. (AP) — An estimated 38,000 adults who had been receiving Medicaid coverage through Wisconsin’s BadgerCare Plus program before being kicked off earlier this year will have more time to sign up under the federal health insurance exchange. The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced Thursday that it was establishing a special enrollment period for those people running through Nov. 2. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services had estimated that about 38,000 out of 63,000 adults who lost that coverage had yet to sign up for subsidized insurance plans under the federal health care overhaul. They lost coverage after Gov. Scott Walker and the Legislature tightened income eligibility to no more than 100 percent of poverty. Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin had asked for the special enrollment period last week.
