5-8-24 fdl police chief reaction to mount horeb incident

The Fond du Lac Police Chief says he was shocked to learn about the active shooter in the tiny community of Mt. Horeb last week.  Police shot and killed a 14 year old student outside a middle school after receiving a report of someone with a weapon.   Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein says the incident shows this can happen anywhere.  Goldstein says he hopes other law enforcement agencies can learn from this incident given that the shooter was not able to gain entrance to the building and nobody other than the shooter was injured or killed.   “Seeing that no access was gained, that is critical and crucial to school safety, and is there anything we can learn, were there any physical barriers that they believed stopped the entry.”  Goldstein told WFDL news.   Goldstein says local law enforcement and schools conduct annual school violence drills and are constantly evaluating school safety protocol.  Authorities say the boy was armed with a pellet gun and pointed it at officers before he was fatally shot.
