Washington, D.C.—On September 18, U.S. Representative Tom Petri (R-WI) was recognized by the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) for being a ‘Taxpayers’ Friend’ for 2013. Representatives from NTU presented Petri the award in his office and thanked him for voting to protect taxpayer dollars. The plaque reads, “This award is presented to Representative Tom Petri — For consistently voting to promote economic freedom and reduce the burden of the American Taxpayer.” Since 1979, NTU has acknowledged Representatives and Senators who achieve top scores in their annual Rating of Congress with the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award.” The rating, which is based on every roll call vote affecting fiscal policy, indicates the Member’s support for reducing or controlling federal spending, taxes, debt, and regulation. For 2013, a total of 253 House and 90 Senate votes were selected.
