Fond du Lac residents, local dignitaries and police officers gathered at the Fond du Lac Police Department Wednesday afternoon for a send off ceremony for a Fond du Lac police officer who is being deployed to active duty. Officer James Darnell, is a sergeant with the Wisconsin Army National Guard whose unit has been activated and is deploying to Afghanistan. “Standing here today, being able to see the Fond du Lac community come here to support a single person is amazing,” Darnell said. “I tried to think for days of what I would say and all I can think of is to say thank you.” Officer Darnell has served the Fond du Lac Police Department for three years and has served as a member of the United States Army and Wisconsin Army National Guard for six and a half years.
