6-21-19 aaa survey finds many drivers underestimate dangers of marijuana impairment

A new AAA survey  finds that many drivers underestimate the dangers of marijuana impairment.   The new survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that driving high is seen as less dangerous than driving drunk, distracted or drowsy.  The survey found that 13 percent of Americans viewed drivig within an hour after using marijuana as only slightly dangerous or not dangerous at all, far more than other risky behaviors like alcohol impaired driving at 1.2 percent.   State AAA spokesman Nick Jarmuscz tells WFDL news nearly 70 percent of respondents think a driver is unlikely to be caught by police when driving within an hour after using marijuana.  Jarmuscz says Wisconsin needs to be prepared for the impact marijuana legalization in neighboring states may have on t he safety of its roads.  He says that includes more training for law enforcement, and public awareness efforts, especially for teens and young adults.
